1921-2021
Our client has a flare for magnificence. Her third custom design with us, which she calls her 'Downton Abbey ring,' features a 1.20 carat cushion cut diamond in a marvellously hand-engraved platinum setting. Not a single detail was overlooked within this ravishing design.
In her own words, she writes, “while women's hairstyles and clothing in the 1920s followed simpler, straighter, less structured lines (think Chanel and her 1919 'chemise dress'), the diamond solitaire remained essentially an Edwardian design. Lavish engraving, milgrain work, and the judicious use of negative space characterises these rings. This continuity with the past, perhaps, denoted something of stability when the world was just emerging from the cataclysm of WWI and hurled into a rapidly-changing, uncertain future. One hundred years later, we are again in similar circumstances.”
