The Widow's Ring

Our customer's words were so beautiful we thought it would be best for her to tell her own story.

“I wanted a ring that honoured the love and commitment I shared with my late husband, and the family we built together.

When my husband fled his country, his mother gave him their jewellery just in case he needed something to sell in his new life as a political refugee in Canada. The ring was designed around these pieces + my engagement ring. My Husband wore his father’s wedding band as his own. The smaller diamonds are from his mother's wedding ring - she died a few months after him and I know she would have loved this ring. When we discovered the sapphires from a cocktail ring were synthetic, we replaced them with Montana sapphires, chosen by my youngest son. It was important to him to be part of this process. (Plus he has good taste)

Art does not alleviate grief, but it does transmute it. Wearing this beautiful ring allows me to remember my marriage, while acknowledging that I’m no longer married. It’s comforting to wear and it brings me joy. Additionally, our Georgian family is far away and this ring acknowledges how close we hold them in our hearts.

Shortly after my husband died, I heard about Dana’s Goldsmithing custom redesign work and started following them on Instagram. 2 years later, I was ready for a ring that honoured the love and commitment that we shared, and the family we built together.
